Top 3 Signs Your House Needs Urgent Air Conditioner Service

ac repair

Homeowners are often surprised to hear their A/C system needs servicing even if it is working properly without even being broken, but it’s true. Professionally maintain them at least once or twice a year, especially in hotter climates such as the greater Austin area. Several indications which suggest the system needs service immediately include: older homes or A/C systems, excessive dust, and high temperature or humidity levels in the home. In some cases, you notice an unusually high utility bill traced to air conditioner service needs.

Updating an older A/C system

Old or neglected systems can wreak havoc in your home long before they even break down. For example, a clogged drain line will create a backup of water which will overflow and damage the surrounding structure of your house and personal belongings.

Experts hold different opinions about when an A/C system is too old for optimal use. Every year, the latest technology creates superior units from trusted manufacturers such as Carrier. As a general rule, an original A/C in a home that is 7 to 10 years of age or older is too old. Your A/C technician properly recycles/disposes of old systems in keeping with environmental regulations.

Noticing excessive dust

Signs of an outdated A/C system aren’t necessarily obvious. Throughout the home, you often observe dust. Dust often collects in the vents and in the air duct as well. Dust gets in the air you breathe, leading to asthma and breathing problems in children and older people with compromised immune systems. You can’t see the inside of your HVAC system, so have a professional give your home a complete inspection and then decide what to do.

Feeling high humidity in home

One of the worst symptoms of an out-of-date air conditioner is feeling stuffy and uncomfortable in your own house. This is what a technician will tell you is the result of high humidity levels due to an inefficient air conditioning system. Also note that your system is probably low on refrigerant, as high humidity is also a symptom of a leaking coil. To solve the humidity problem, ask your technician about purchasing a new high-tech system with a variable speed fan, and a thermostat with humidity controls.

Upgrade Your Thermostat to the Best Smart Thermostat

Smart thermostats aren't only convenient, they also save energy and money when you use them properly. On today's market the Nest Learning Thermostat is the best, smart thermostat replacement you can buy. You can control it remotely from your phone, tablet or with your voice.

Introduced in 2011 this smart thermostat Nest created this thermostat. They're a company that's led by Tony Fadell who's credited as one of the major forces behind Apple's iPod. Originally, this thermostat was a stylish, metal-and-glass, Wi-Fi enabled device. It has a brightly colored screen and you integrate it with your smart phone's apps. According to Nest Labs their thermostat saves enough energy to pay for itself in about two years.

With the Nest Lab smart thermometer saves time and energy, another of its many great benefits is you can program it so you're in control of the environment – when the temperature rises and falls. Installing it is as easy as connecting it to your business' existing HVAC system. It's important to remember that since your business probably has more than one zone in its HVAC system, you'll need to buy more than one thermostat. Although the Nest Learning Thermostat is compatible with multi zone HVAC systems, it can't control more than one zone. You must place them throughout your business in the same way you'd place a traditional thermostat, but the similarities to traditional thermostats end there.

When your business is ready to benefit from installing a smart thermostat, contact us. We look forward to helping you take this step towards enabling your business to run smoother.

Commercial AC Services Can Save Your Retail Business Money

When you think about hiring an HVAC company that offers commercial AC services, you might think about spending money that your retail business can't really afford. However, no matter how tight of a budget your business might have, spending money on necessary HVAC services is always worth it. In fact, keeping up your commercial HVAC system can actually save your company a lot of money. These are a few reasons why.

Avoid HVAC Issues That Could Damage Products

First of all, depending on the types of products that you sell in your stores, a sudden heating or air conditioning problem could actually damage or destroy products. For example, if you sell food items and your air conditioner stops working in the middle of the summer, your items could be affected by the temperatures while you are waiting to have your unit repaired. By keeping your HVAC system well-maintained, you can help prevent sudden malfunctions and damage to your products.

Prevent the Need for Expensive Repairs

Additionally, commercial AC services can also help you prevent the need for expensive repairs. After all, paying a modest fee to have your unit maintained can be a whole lot more affordable than putting off maintenance and having to deal with a costly repair later because of it.

Reduce Your Company's Heating and Cooling Bills

Unlike at home, where you can possibly keep your thermostat set a few degrees higher or lower than what you would prefer so that you can save money, you can't really do that in a retail setting in which your customers might be uncomfortable. Luckily, you can still save money on your heating and cooling bills by keeping your commercial HVAC unit well-maintained.

As you can see, commercial AC services can actually save your retail business money. If you would like to find out more about these services, contact us at Green Leaf A/C and Heating today.

Preventing Leaks By Maintaining Your Air Conditioner's Filter

Air conditioner repair and maintenance may seem like a difficult and complicated field of work. Yet there are certain problems that can be addressed--or, better yet, prevented--even by a relative amateur. One such problem are leaks caused by an air filter that has become clogged. Read on if you would like to learn more about solving this commonly encountered issue.

The Air Filter’s Job

The air filter in an air conditioner plays a fairly self-explanatory purpose. As the machine draws air from your home back through the machine, the filter is responsible for collecting unwanted substances such as dust, debris, and pet dander. This not only improves the air quality inside of your house, but it also prevents that debris from building up and causing problems for sensitive internal components.

How The Air Filter Contributes To Leaks

Ironically, the air filter can end up developing precisely the problems it is meant to prevent. You see, when the filter becomes too clogged up with gunk and debris, it will begin to restrict the flow or air through your AC. Without a steady flow of air to absorb the cold being generated by the refrigerant inside the air conditioner, ice will begin to form on the outside of the evaporator coils. Each time the machine shuts off that ice will melt, thus causing a mysterious, recurring leak.

Solving The Problem

Fortunately, the solution to this problem is quite simple. All you have to do is inspect and replace your air filter on a regular basis. During periods of active AC use, plan on installing a fresh filter approximately once every three months. This will keep the air flowing the way it should, thus preventing unwanted leaks. If the problem still persists, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Professional Air Conditioner Service

As the summer months drag along and your AC unit begins to function poorly, then you may be in need of air conditioner service. There are some simple signs to check for that will inform you whether it is working properly.

  • Is it blowing cool air? This is a sign that your AC unit is in need of serious repair. Your compressor may have failed or your Freon levels may be low. It is also a sign of belt failure. Lastly this may mean your AC needs to be replaced.
  • Poor air flow? This is a sign that the unit's compressor is failing. If some rooms get cool while other's do not, then this is a sign that your duct work may be blocked or have a hole in it. In both cases, this means you need to have them cleaned or repaired.
  • Rooms of varied temperatures? In this case, it may mean that your AC unit is not the problem. It may be the thermostat that is the underlying cause and needs to be replaced.
  • Moisture where there shouldn't be? This is indicative of two potential problem areas. The first is a major issue, coolant leakage, and should be addressed as soon as possible as these can pose a serious threat to the health of you and your family. The second cause is less serious and is often caused by a stoppage or break in the drain tube. Although less hazardous, this can lead to the growth of mold which can aggravate those with breathing issues.
  • Making strange sounds or noises? This can often occur from a broken belt or metal pulley in the unit that is in need of lubrication.

Having your AC unit serviced and inspected by a professional will allow you to avoid the cost of unit replacement. If your unit has any of the symptoms then feel free to contact greenleafhvac.net for more information.
